The Sioux gave up a two goal lead on Saturday night for the 2nd weekend in a row, earning a split with Minnesota-Duluth.
A split on the road is always good, right? I mean, split on the road, sweep at home? That's the way it's supposed to work, I think. But what happens when the team had the lead with less than a minute left and were unable to close it out? What about then?
I'm not sure it's being noticed because the Sioux have put together a decent season in the W/L column. But in the WCHA, they are looking at a 6-5-1 record and a 6th place standing right now. Personally, I'm not too impressed. Now I know some people are going to say that the Sioux are playing much better in the 1st half than usual, .500 is better than the alternative, etc. But when they tie the lowly Gophers and lose to the hapless Seawolves, you can't help but to be a little frustrated.
Up next is a formidable opponent, the Badgers. We all know how much I hate Wisconsin, so stay tuned...

It's not like UND played a team full of hacks this weekend. They played the Bulldogs who have one of the top lines in the country. I don't think its time to panic yet.
I think it might be time to panic if Eidness continues to make it a habit of letting in rather soft goals at the end of games.
I would like to point out that Connolly-Connolly-Fontaine is not a line except on the power play.

I wouldn't call either of those goals or goals that came late vs Miami "soft." Eidness does tend to stray bit far from the net for my liking but that is partly what makes him so good, his ability to cut down the angles.
Most disappointing thing was that UMD's game winner was almost instant replay of Miami's game tieing goal. All the Sioux players got mesmerized by the puck and let an opposing player walk to the back door unmolested.
Request for UMD fans on here, please tell UMD announcers to say Duluth and North Dakota instead of UMD and UND when these schools play each other. It is hard to follow the announcers when both school acronyms sound exactly the same.
Its pretty evident that not only is this "another split..." for north dakota, they were lucky to have come away with even that this weekend. Friday night's win over the UMD Bulldgos was not convincing. Even though north daktoa won 4-2, their fourth goal was an empty net goal. This was really a one goal game. All of the Bulldog's points on friday night were handed out to their third and fourth lines. And I don't say that to discredit the Bulldogs third and fourth lines. UMD has an amazing team from top to bottom. However, had UMD's top two lines played a greater role in this game, the Bulldogs would have swept north dakota. There is no question about it.
north daokta fans have long enjoyed a succesful hockey team. but it appears that that tradition is heading south. You have to beat the best to be the best. north dakota is no longer the best. its time for you to panic.

Did you ever think UMD's top two lines didn't score because UND was good enough on Friday that they shut them down? Also I would say UND's Friday win was more convincing than UMD's Saturday win.
UND is rated #3 in the country right now hardly time to panic.
UND has played 7 games without the best player in the conference, he will be back and they will be even better.
UND, is off to as good or better start than it has been off to in any other year under Hakstol... a five year tenure which has included 4 frozen four berths and 1McNaughton Cup.
And even if UND loses every game from here on out for the rest of the season, I would say it is a little early to say "it appears that that tradition is heading south." That's thing about tradition it isn't built in one game, weekend, or season it's built on on years of continued success. A December road split with a pretty solid UMD team is hardly reason to throw in the towel on the season or the program.
While UND undoubtedly has a strong program; and sadly; will continue to have a strong program, Minnesota is clearly in trouble. If that team can't bring it together, Lucia is out at the end of the season.
Dog Pound...if any team is lucky to get a win this weekend its yours. That puck clearly hit the netting and the refs blew that one. If that goal did not count your team was pointless on the weekend. You have a good first line but that doesnt win you playoff games as Sioux fans know first hand. Your program has a LONG way to go before you are knocking other teams out of the elite range. UND hockey is one of the best traditions in hockey PERIOD. Duluth not so much and will always be in the shadow of the mighty Goofers.
