Knight with a questionable hit

With all the hate that this blog and others brought on Aaron Marvin for his disgusting bush-league hit that sidelined Chay Genoway for the season thus far, it's only fair that I discuss one of our own dishing it out as well.

Corban Knight delivered a punishing check to Mike Connolly over the weekend which knocked him out of the game. Sources say he has a black eye and a concussion. Take a look at the hit below:

While I don't think Knight had intent to injure, as I still feel Marvin did when he was gunning for Chay, the bottom line is Knight hit Connolly in the head and therefore needs to be reprimanded. With concussions being in the spotlight and brain trauma being so important right now, the least the league could do is review this hit and decide what is appropriate. I feel at least a game suspension out of it would be fair. While I can't tell for sure if Knight hit him with an elbow, I can tell that he hit Connolly in the head and there just isn't room for that in college hockey...or any level of hockey, for that matter.

And on another note, Aaron Marvin gooned it up again in Madison, taking out Blake Geoffrion at mid-ice with a blatant elbow to the facemask. Check it out:

Geoffrion left the game, but according to Coach Eaves, he should be fine. Wisconsin used it as a rallying point, crushing the goons from SCSU 7-4. Brad Shepherd and Todd Anderson explained to Eaves that the reason they didn't call a penalty was because Marvin made contact with the facemask and not the head. Um, pretty sure the face is part of your head there homeslice. Seriously? Is this where we're at in society?

It'll be interesting to see what action the league takes on either of these hits...if it takes any...*rolls eyes*

And you know that if Knight gets suspended, the SiouxSports Nation will explode...

I don't think that is a terrible hit. He hits him from the side and doesn't appear to be taking his hands or stick against the head. He did have the puck. When I read the blog post I thought the video would be real apparent and real bad. I don't have a problem with that hit and I wouldn't even compare goon boys hit on genoway or geffrion.

As I said, I don't think Knight's hit is a dirty hit, but he did hit Connolly in the head, and there's just no place for that. Again, Knight's hit was not dirty.

Of course you don't have a problem with it, ticklethetwine. Your player did it.

Brandon, there is no elbow, this is not a dirty hit.

I'm not calling this a dirty hit. I'm calling it a questionable hit. He definitely hit him in the head, and there's consequences for that, as the WCHA has proven. I don't think this hit was dirty.

Brandon stop sucking up to Donna, there is no elbow, it wasn't a dirty or questionable hit. For a guy that claims to have a vast hockey knowledge you don't have a very good grasp of the game of hockey. You are just about as clueless as Donald Douche Bag.

To the last anon, how many times do I have to say he didn't hit him with an elbow and it wasn't a dirty hit? If you had any hockey knowledge though, you'd agree it was questionalbe. Leaving your feet is questionable as well as hitting a guy in the head is questionable.

I'm not even sure Knight made contact to the head? This video definitely doesn't confirm that he did. Knight didn't leave the ice either but he did finish his check. I can't say either way. I do hate to see players like Genoway, Geoffrion, and Connolly get hurt. (Not good for college hockey) yet it is part of the game. It's time to move on and this example of a questionable hit is mediocre at best.

Marvin didn't hit Geoffrion with his elbow either. He got him with his shoulder. Though this hit seems more like a cheap shot I don't think that this was an illegal hit either. Geoffrion simply wasn't aware that Marvin was there. Gotta keep your head on a swivel at this level.

This hit happened right infront of me, the only contact to the head that i saw was the UMD player's head bounching off the glass. Knight hit him in the shoulder.

Seriously? It was right in front of me as well. Concussions can easily happen on hits that are not illegal. A hit to the head is NOT legal. Look at the video frame by frame. There is not a hit to the head. It is a solid shoulder to shoulder hit that happens hundreds of times over the course of a season. Connolly clearly wasn't expecting to get hit, thus the apparent nastiness to the hit. It certainly is not clear that Knight hit him in the head.
It was clear that Marvin hit Geoffrion's head. Apples to Oranges.

Here's an FYI for you *bloggers*... a blog makes you no more a great hockey mind than anyone else. You just have more time on your hands.
